Hannah and Karl’s Wedding
As a candid wedding photographer I recently had the pleasure of photographing Hannah and Karl’s wedding day- what an incredible day it was from start to finish!
They picked the stunning Shottle Hall on the edge of the Peak District as their wedding venue, so as a Birmingham wedding photographer I had a fantastic drive from the Midlands through the scenic Derbyshire Dales to start my day. For those of you who haven’t visited the area, it’s very Emmerdale-esque with it’s quaint little villages, streams, hills and sheep. It certainly helped set the scene!
When I met Hannah at her wedding planning stage I explained all about how I work as a documentary wedding photographer and my approach to candid wedding photography. I knew she was totally relaxed about the types of wedding photos I was going to take as I explained my style; I enjoy photographing the day as it happens naturally, preferring to let the day just play out authentically and photograph those moments as they happen in real-time. There’s enough things to be thinking about on your wedding day without having to worry if you’re in the right place at the right time for photos! We can have a chat and a laugh as the day goes on but generally speaking I tend to stay out of the way. The only time I intervene is for the handful of group shots and relaxed couple portraits.
After the wedding hair stylist had worked her magic on the bridesmaids, we all headed to the venue. Shottle Hall started to fill up with guests as Hannah applied the finishing touches in bridal preparation, ready to join Karl in front of all their friends and family. There were smiles and cheers all around as the bride and groom exchanged rings and I do’s- before being blessed with glorious sunshine for the confetti run and drinks reception.
The setting sun against the rolling hills of the Derbyshire Dales provided the perfect backdrop for their relaxed husband and wife portraits, and by the time Karl’s football lads joined the night the party was well and truly underway!
